Measures which get implement every year under the revised GRAP in phases from October 1 to curb the pollution, did not come into effect in Delhi-NCR so far. According to the sources, the air quality index of Delhi remains below the threshold of 201.As per guidelines, the Stage 1 comprises of 27 measures. One of them is shutting down construction and demotion sites which comes under 500 sqms but are not registered with the governments web portal. It is to be noted here after staying in the moderate category for almost the period of 15 days, Delhis air quality is likely to go into poor category by the weekend, which will trigger the Stage 1 of the Graded Response Action Plan (Grap), as per sources. In addition to this, a list of the 10 most polluted cities in the last year shows that Delhi and other cities in the National Capital Region (NC) still dominate air pollution rankings. Delhis air quality improved marginally, yet it was the most polluted city between 1 October 2022 and 30 September 2023.As the peak #pollution season begins in the country, @respirerIN and @ClimateTrendsIN have analysed two sets of air quality data: the governments PM2.5 data for the past year and PM2.5 data during winter, roughly October–March, when pollution levels rise. #AirQuality #India pic.twitter.com/bcmjzkRjog— Indias Clean Air Tracker (@NCAPtracker) October 4, 2023Meanwhile, Delhi Environment minister Gopal Rai on October 3 announced that the state government has created a Green War Room which will help in combatting pollution.
