India’s one of the premier institutes, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay on Thursday has received a donation of US$18.6 million from an alumnus for establishment of a Green Energy and Sustainability Research Hub.

However, IIT-Bombay, did not disclose the identity of the alumnus, saying he wanted to remain anonymous.

According to the official statement of the university, this contribution will reinvent the institute’s role in addressing the global climate crisis. The hub will be situated in a cutting-edge academic structure on the IIT Bombay campus in the Powai district, and its focus will expand to vitally essential sectors.

In addition to this, the areas of attention include assessing climate risks and creating practical mitigation plans, preparing for climate change, and conducting thorough environmental monitoring.

Notably, the centre aims to promote the use of energy-efficient technology and renewable energy sources. According to the announcement, it will help with research in a number of important fields, including battery technology, solar photovoltaics, biofuels, clean-air science, flood predictions, and carbon capture, among others.

The Green Energy and Sustainability Research Hub will not only provide the industry tailored educational training but will also cultivate strategic collaborations with global universities.
