Amid incessant rainfall which has triggered landslides has devastated the Himachal region. According to the sources, a massive landslide has been reported in Shimla’s Summer Hill area on Wednesday.

Officials have informed that a search and rescue operation is underway after the word of the incident got out. Sniffer dogs and rescuers were at the spot after the incident was reported. Meanwhile, SDM Shimla (Urban) Bhanu Gupta said, “Local people have confirmed the count that there can be 21 bodies. Out of which, we have recovered 12 bodies in the last two days. Our search and rescue operation is going on. In our team, we have NDRF, SDRF, army, local police and home guard…If we get any positive news on some people being alive, we’ll rescue them properly.”

Prior to this, on Tuesday, the Indian Air Force airlifted 18 army soldiers in a single sortie to aid the rescue operation following landslides in Shimla.

“A Chinook helicopter of Western Air Command airlifted 18 Indian Army personnel and a 3-Ton Mini Dozer in a single sortie for rescue efforts in areas affected by landslides near Himachal Pradesh’s Shimla today,” the Indian Air Force informed through its official social media handle on Tuesday.

“Our government is fully committed to expediting restoration efforts on a priority basis. He said about 400 out of a total of 1,220 blocked roads have been restored to their normal state,” chief minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu said.

Rain related incidents claim at least 60 lives

According to the reports, rain-related incidents have claimed at least 60 live so far. Rescue operations are still on to get out the injured people and vehicles from the debris of landslide in affected areas of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

Meanwhile, another landslide has been reported from Uttarakhand’s Chamoli, where a house collapse has claimed 1 life. However, 3 people have been rescued by the rescuers.
