The National Highway 5 from Kinnaur district in Himachal Pradesh has been cut after a major landslide in the Nigulsari area on Thursday night. However, no casualties have been reported from the place yet.

According to National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) said, the connectivity to Kinnaur and Spiti was cut off after the landslide. While speaking to media persons, KL Suman, Executive Engineer of the National Highway Authority informed, “The road has started caving in from the top at the landslide. A 380-meter stretch of NH-5 has been damaged due to the landslide.”

About 380 metres of the road distance has been caved in after the incident and have disrupted vehicular movement. Notably, there is no other connecting route to Kinnaur.

According to the reports of the administration, Nigulsari is one of the 15 spots in the list which is prone to landslides. The other significant spots in the district are Urni Dhank, Batsari, Nesang and Purbani Julha.

It is to be noted here that according to the numbers shared by the State Emergency Operation Centre, more than 111 people have died in 164 landslides in Himachal Pradesh since the onset of monsoon this year. While the number of people killed in rain-related incidents is 263.

Kinnaur only, so far has witnessed at least five landslides.
