Congress-led Karnataka government has extended an invitation to business magnate Elon Musk to set up businesses in the southern state.

Newly elected Large and Medium Industries Minister of Karnataka, MB Patil, stated on Friday that Karnataka is the ideal location for Tesla’s development, two days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi met billionaire Elon Musk, the founder of Tesla, SpaceX, and CTO and chairman of Twitter, to discuss his potential investment plans in India.

Elon Musk met PM Modi on June 21 and was invited to look at potential opportunities in India’s commercial space industry and electric vehicle industry.

Karnataka’s Minister of Commerce and Industries, Infrastructure MB Patil, in a tweet, said that Karnataka is the ‘ideal destination’ for Tesla’s expansion into India. He tweeted:

What happened at the PM Modi-Elon Musk meeting?

During his meeting with PM Modi, Musk also expressed that he intends to deliver Starlink, a satellite-based broadband Internet service created by his company SpaceX to India.

He also added that his electric vehicle company wants to enter India ‘as soon as humanly possible.’ Musk also stated that he would be travelling to India next year.

“The Starlink Internet … I think can be incredibly helpful for sort of remote or rural villages where they perhaps either may have no access to the Internet or the Internet is very expensive and slow,” Musk said.

Modi tweeted, “Great meeting you today @elonmusk! We had multifaceted conversations on issues ranging from energy to spirituality.” To this, Musk replied, “It was an honour to meet again.”
