IMD issues alert for West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam & Meghalaya

After days if incessant rains in the region, India Meteorological Department (IMD) has again issued a warning for the sub-Himalayan region for the heavy rains in the coming days. The alert has been issued for Meghalaya, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, West Bengal and Bihar.

In addition to this, department also informed that the districts have witnessed highest rainfall (Countrywide) in the past 24 hours. Matigada (West Bengal) received 27 cm and Fatehpur (Uttar Pradesh) received 17 cm of rainfall. Apart from this, the department has also advised people to avoid going to areas with waterlogged and unpaved roads in this rainy season.

West Bengal has been issued ‘Red’ alert for heavy rains.

Meanwhile, Arunachal Pradesh has also been issued ‘Orange’ alert.

It is also to be noted that other hilly areas of northern region have also been witnessing heavy rains and landslides since the beginning of the monsoon session. Mishaps due to landslides and other rain related incidents have taken over 200 lives and several left stranded so far only in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
