School Principal arrested in Jind over alleged harassment of over 50 girls

Jind Principal harasses 50 girls: In a distressing turn of events, a government school principal in Jind district, Haryana, has been apprehended following allegations of sexual misconduct involving more than 50 girl students.

Principal Nabbed After Five-Day Search

The accused school principal was taken into custody on Saturday, culminating in a five-day manhunt. According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Amit Kumar Bhatia, "He will be produced before a court (in Jind), and we will seek his police remand for further investigation." The investigation into these troubling allegations is now firmly underway.

Haryana State Women Commission's Concerns

The Haryana State Women Commission had expressed serious concerns over the allegations. More than 50 girl students from a government school in Jind district came forward with accusations of sexual harassment against the principal. The State Women's Commission Chairperson, Renu Bhatia, disclosed that they had received a total of 60 written complaints from students. Of these, 50 complaints detailed accounts of physical abuse at the hands of the accused. Renu Bhatia revealed that an additional ten girls in their complaints indicated their knowledge of the principal's involvement in such actions.

Legal Action Taken

The school principal was booked by the Haryana Police on sexual harassment charges, days after the Jind administration had suspended him from his position. Legal action against the principal was taken swiftly, with charges filed under sections 354-A (sexual harassment), 341 (wrongful restraint), and 342 (wrongful confinement) of the Indian Penal Code, in addition to the provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Importantly, all the complainants are minors.

The victims reported that the accused would summon them to his office and engage in inappropriate conduct, leading to these deeply distressing accusations.

Girls' Cry for Help

This shocking case took a turn when a group of female students from the school wrote a letter detailing their experiences to the Prime Minister's Office and the National Commission for Women. Their plea for help highlights the urgency of addressing the safety of students and the need for vigilance in educational institutions.
