Two women were assaulted and one of them had her leg run over by a car in the early hours of Tuesday after they rejected advances from a group of six men outside a private club in Haryana’s Panchkula, police officials said.
The victim who suffered the car incident sustained fractures in both her legs, while the other woman is currently undergoing treatment for severe head injuries at Civil Hospital, Sector 6, Panchkula. She is a mother of two kids, aged seven and four, and is a resident of Malikpur in Haryana’s Jhajjar, as per media reports.
The woman and her friend were in Panchkula for vacation and were boarding at another friend’s residence in Dhakoli, as per her statement to the police.
The incident unfolded as six men arrived in two vehicles outside the Purple Frog Club in Panchkula’s Sector 9 at around 4:00 AM. As the women waited for the cab, one man named Sandhu attempted to forcibly take the two women with him, aided by his friends.
The women protested against the advances, prompting the miscreants to attack one of them with a sharp object, causing head injuries. Then the attackers pushed the other woman to the ground before proceeding to run a Maruti Suzuki Swift car, bearing a Punjab number plate, over her foot.
Jagdish Chand, the Sector 10 Police post-in-charge, said, “A case has been registered based on the statements of both women.”
Chand said that the accused have been charged under Sections 148, 149 (both rioting), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC at the Sector 5 Police Station, adding that all individuals involved in the assault will be apprehended by the police.
