A chilling incident unfolded in Surat, Gujarat, on Friday morning as three members of a family, including a seven-year-old boy, were found dead in their residence at the Limbayat area. According to the police, the preliminary investigation suggests a harrowing case of murder-suicide.
The deceased have been identified as Somesh, 38, his 32-year-old wife, and their young son. Authorities believe that Somesh allegedly poisoned his wife and child before taking his own life by hanging himself.
"Police said they were informed about the incident by the neighbours. After reaching the spot, the police had to break open the house door," stated a source familiar with the incident.
Hailing from South India, Somesh had settled in Surat several years ago and was employed as a labourer in the construction industry.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (D Division) J T Sonara provided chilling details of the suspected events. "Prima facie indicates that Somesh tied his wife to the bed and potentially used a pillow to end her life after administering poison. After killing his wife, he allegedly poisoned their seven-year-old son before taking his own life by hanging."
The investigation took a significant turn with the discovery of a mobile phone and a handwritten note at the scene. Surat Joint Commissioner of Police Wabang Jamir revealed that "the police found a mobile phone and a note at the scene. The discovery of a mobile phone led investigators to find evidence of sending a message to his brother before the incident in the Telugu language."
The message reportedly contained Somesh's intent to end his life, while the handwritten note conveyed an apology to his mother-in-law, as per the police.
