Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to inaugurate the monumental ‘Surat Diamond Bourse,’ billed as the world’s biggest diamond trading ecosystem and also the world's largest office building, in Gujarat today (December 17).

According to the Prime Minister's Office, after its inauguration, Surat Diamond Bourse will be the world's largest and modern centre for the international diamond and jewellery business.

On Sunday, at around 10:45 AM, the prime minister will inaugurate the new integrated terminal building at Surat Airport. Following this, at around 11:15 AM, he will inaugurate the Surat Diamond Bourse, a press release from the Prime Minister's Office said.

What are the specifications of Surat Diamond Bourse?

Touted as a game-changer for India’s precious stone industry, the $500 million complex will host over 4,500 diamond enterprises. Encompassing 67 lakh sq ft, its scale and sophistication aim to transform Surat into a global diamond trade hub.

Facilities include dedicated spaces for import/export clearance, jewellery retail, international banking and hyper-secure vaults.

Which Guinness World Record received by Surat Diamond Bourse?

Recognised by Guinness World Records as the world’s largest office building, the Bourse’s towers and connecting spine are architecturally constructed to enable seamless collaboration.

Built on a 35-acre plot, construction utilised green design principles to achieve elite Indian sustainability certifications.

Leading diamond tycoon Vallabhbhai Lakhani has already shifted his multi-billion dollar operations into the Bourse’s cutting-edge ecosystem. He is additionally developing executive living quarters nearby.

PM Modi takes to his social media

On Saturday, PM Modi took to his X account to inform about the inauguration ceremony of the world's largest office building, saying "In Surat tomorrow, the Surat Diamond Bourse will be inaugurated. This will be a major boost to the diamonds industry. The ‘Customs Clearance House’, Jewellery Mall and facility of International Banking and Safe Vaults will be significant parts of the Bourse."

As PM Modi presides over the opening today, India will strengthen its credentials as an integrated, full-service base for the global diamond pipeline.

No longer just a manufacturing/polishing hub, Surat now mirrors Dubai and Antwerp as a prestigious marketplace sealing deals among top international traders and jewellers.

After the curtain-raiser, the prime minister proceeds to his constituency of Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh to attend various other functions.
