Gujarat crime news: The Morbi police made a significant breakthrough on Sunday by arresting D D Rabari, the prime accused in the assault on a Dalit man who was subjected to a humiliating act of licking the boots of a businesswoman, the owner of a ceramic factory.
The victim, Nilesh Dalsaniya, a former sales manager at a ceramic factory, faced the degrading act on November 22 after persistently demanding his salary for 18 days. The assault occurred when he made repeated calls to Vibhuti alias Raniba Patel, the owner of the ceramic factory.
Police investigations pointed to D D Rabari as the main perpetrator of the assault. Dalsaniya, seeking remuneration for his work, was allegedly thrashed by Rabari. The police revealed that Rabari has pending cases under the Money-Lending Act. Despite the request for remand, the court decided on judicial custody for Rabari.
Simultaneously, the court rejected anticipatory bail pleas from other accused parties, including Vibhuti Patel, Om Patel, Raj Patel, Parikshit, and others involved in the case.
In a parallel development, Vibhuti Patel faced charges of causing public nuisance under the IT Act. The charge stemmed from a video posted on her Instagram account, showcasing her birthday celebration on a public road where she cut two cakes.
Dalsaniya, terminated from his job the previous month due to performance issues, approached Patel on November 22 to demand his unpaid salary of 18 days. Accompanied by his elder brother Mehul and friend Bhavesh Makwana, they were met with physical assault and casteist slurs.
Rabari and Raj Patel reportedly slapped Dalsaniya before escalating the violence. The victim was taken to the company's terrace, where he was beaten with a belt. The tormentors subjected him to casteist slurs and forced him to lick Vibhuti's shoes, coupled with threats of harm if he returned to the vicinity of Ravapar Chowkdi, where the factory is situated.
Following the brutal assault, Dalsaniya was admitted to the civil hospital for medical treatment.
In a stride towards justice, the arrest of the key accused offers a ray of hope for accountability in cases of caste-based violence.
