At least 14 people were killed in Gujarat on Sunday due to unseasonal rains and lightning strikes, according to the State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC). Forty animals also died in the inclement weather.The highest death toll was reported in Dahod district where three people lost their lives. Two deaths each occurred in Bharuch and Amreli while one fatality was recorded in districts including Surendranagar, Mehsana, Botad, Panchamahals, Kheda, Sabarkantha, Surat and Ahmedabad.Gujarat experienced a cool morning Sunday after parts of the state were hit by unseasonal rainfall and hailstorms. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast similar weather for Monday, November 27.“Unseasonal rains have started in the entire Gujarat including Ahmedabad on Sunday. Winds started from the North East at a speed of 5 kilometres per hour amid heavy clouds,” said IMD. Gujarat Rain details The Saurashtra region was significantly affected. Major cities like Surat, Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar witnessed heavy showers and reduced visibility due to fog which disrupted commuting.Areas in Saurashtra like Talala in Gir Somnath district received 46mm rainfall till Sunday afternoon. Other places like Vanthali in Junagadh, Dasada in Surendranagar and Patan-Veraval in Gir Somnath recorded 43mm, 36mm and 35mm of rain respectively.The weather shift and hailstorms prompted many locals to share videos and images on social media platforms. The IMD had forecasted the weather three days ago. IMD ask people to practice caution It has now issued warnings to fishermen near the South Gujarat coast over widespread rainfall, thunder and winds blowing at 40-60 km/hr.Heavy rains have been forecasted in Surat and Navsari while other coastal districts could witness downpours till Monday. Ahmedabad, Tapi, Dang and more may also receive heavy showers.
