Goa police on Friday have arrested a 47-year-old man who was native of Gujarat for allegedly raping a woman tourist at a resort in Assonora village of North Goa.

According to the officials, the incident happened on August 23 when accused and victim, both were travelling at the same flights where they became friend and shared their number. Following the victim’s complaint, the accused has been arrested.  

The accused has been identified as Laxman Shiyar, who visited Goa as a tourist. After getting the complaint, police have registered a complaint against him.

Meanwhile, Deputy Superintendent of Police Jivba Dalvi said, “The victim and the accused had earlier met each other on a flight and befriended each other. During their conversation, the man had taken down the woman’s phone number and later remained in touch with her over the phone.”

He further said that “Earlier this week, the victim and the man visited Goa separately. On August 23, he called the woman on her phone and persuaded her to visit the resort he was staying at Assonora under the pretext of showing the amenities there.”

When girl visited him at the resort, he took her to the hotel room and raped her and also threatened her for not disclosing the incident to anyone.  

Based on woman’s compliant, the police have arrested the accused.
