At least 28 people were hospitalised after inhaling a gas that leaked at a chemical factory near Jambusar in Gujarat’s Bharuch district on Wednesday.

28 hospitalised after gas leaked in chemical factory in Gujarat

Briefing about the incident, Gujarat’s Bharuch Resident Additional Collector NR Dhandhal said, “A fire was reported today (August 23) at P.I. Industries near Sarod village. Bromine gas leaked due to the fire. 28 people complained of breathing problems and were admitted to a hospital.”

No casualty so far: Officials

No casualty has been reported in the incident so far, said the officials.

Reportedly, this incident came to light around 2 pm, when an orange-coloured cloud appeared in the sky above the facility. Amid this, the firefighting personnel and other rescue teams swiftly facilitated the evacuation of a considerable number of company employees.

Moreover, prompt emergency response measures were activated, with ambulances visibly hurrying to transport the affected individuals to nearby medical facilities for immediate care.
