Ahead of the G20 Summit preparations are in full swing now to welcome the delegates to the capital. Several flights have been canceled from the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi. Around 160 flights have been canceled from September 8 to September 10 due to the G20 Summit.

According to a spokesperson from Delhi’s IGI airport said that they have received a request to either cancel or reschedule approximately 80 departing and 80 arriving domestic flights from September 8 to 10.

This step has been initiated by the government to reduce air traffic and curtail frequency by a fourth throughout the Summit. However, there will be no impact on international flights.

DIAL on flight cancellations

The Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) also clarified that the cancellation of flights does not have any linkage to the assumption that it is because of less parking space in Delhi Airport since the airport is well equipped with ample parking space.

A DIAL spokesperson in an official statement said, “We take immense pride in India’s role as the host of the G20 Summit 2023. Current news on cancellations of flights has no linkage to the parking of aircraft. We have already provided the required parking.”

He further said “Decisions on cancellations of flights have been taken by airlines possibly in light of traffic restrictions due to the G20 summit. While we recognise that approximately 80 arrivals and 80 departures may be affected due to these cancellations, we are committed to working closely with airlines to minimize any inconvenience caused to passengers”.

Delhi police on G20 Summit

Meanwhile, the Delhi Police advised people to travel by the Airport Express metro line for smooth and hustle-free movement during the time of Summit since road travel to the Delhi Airport will be affected from September 8 to 10.

Moreover, as part of the preparation for the G20 Summit, the Delhi police will also provide tourist police vehicles with 400 police personnel trained for this very purpose.

Delhi Police mentioned 21 locations in the city where these vehicles will be stationed which includes Railway Stations, Airport Terminals, ISBT, Samadhis, popular markets and monuments like Red Fort, Akshardham, Qutub Minar, Lotus Temple, Humayun Tomb, etc.
