A speeding high-end Mercedes car hit three other cars, a motorcycle, and a scooter near Goa’s capital Panaji, resulting in the death of three people, police officials said. All six vehicles involved in the incident were severely damaged.

The incident took place around 7:30 PM on Sunday at the Banastarim village, situated on the Ponda-Panaji national highway, approximately 15 kilometres away from Panaji.

The collision claimed the lives of a couple who were riding the scooter, as well as an individual who was travelling on the motorcycle. Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

Goa Mercedes driver drunk, arrested after fatal accident

An official from the Mardol Police Station reported that the driver of the Mercedes, who appeared to be under the influence of alcohol, was arrested following the accident. The driver has been identified as Paresh A Sinai Sawardekar.

A case has been registered against the accused driver on charges of culpable homicide, drunken driving, and rash and negligent driving, police officials confirmed.

In the aftermath of the accident, local villagers initially resisted attempts to tow away the Mercedes responsible for the collision. However, after police intervention, the vehicle was eventually allowed to be removed from the scene.
