G20 Summit is being hosted by India, and the main meeting will take place in New Delhi on September 9–10. Almost 29 heads of state, as well as senior EU officials, invited guest nations, and 14 leaders of international organisations, are expected to attend the summit.
Meanwhile, the department of personnel ministry on Thursday has issued a notice that all the central government offices will be shut in Delhi from September 8 till 10. The decision has been taken recognising the magnitude of the G20 summit.
Notably, G20 summit will be held in Delhi on September 9 and 10. The main venue of the summit will be the newly opened International Exhibition-cum-Convention Centre named ‘Bharat Mandapam’ at Pragati Maidan.
According to the proposal that was sent to the chief minister of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal for the approval, all private and government offices, including banks, commercial establishments, including markets will remain closed on September 8-10 in the New Delhi district.
In addition to this, schools and colleges will also remain closed following the G20 summit in the capital.
The sources have claimed that as a precautionary measure, closure of a few metro stations, including the Supreme Court and the Central Secretariat is also on the list. Heavy vehicles, excluding those involved in essential services, also will not be allowed to enter the city between these dates.
According to Special Police Commissioner Madhup Tiwari, the decision by the ministry has been taken keeping the security of the delegates in mind. There are several hotels that have been embarked for the heads of states and delegates and foreign dignitaries. The officer also disclosed that most of the delegates will depart on September 10 and 11, there will be massive movement of the traffic which needs to be curtailed for the smooth passage.
The special commissioner also added that Delhi Police will be sharing the advisory for the traffic movement soon.
