As the national capital is gearing up for the upcoming G20 Summit, several security arrangements to decoration arrangements have been made. To maintain a check on these things, Delhi Police have now started conducting vehicle checking at various locations held today.

Delhi Police conduct surprise checks in city

Surprise checks were conducted at India Gate and other parts of the city between the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday. Police personnel were seen conducting thorough inspections by halting vehicles. Earlier on Monday, Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Culture Meenakshi Lekhi said that paramilitary forces, Delhi Police and several other people are engaged in providing security at the G20 Summit.

Speaking to the news agency ANI, she said, “So I must say that so far as safety, security, et cetera are concerned, that arrangement is being looked after by various departments, including paramilitary forces, Delhi police and several other people are engaged in that process.”

She also highlighted that the diversity of the G20 Summit, to be held on September 09 -10, saying, “We’ve had about 52 locations and 250 plus events. So 250-plus conferences are not a joke to handle. It’s a logistic nightmare if not done right, but everything’s been done just right.”

Fire Service to deploy mobile dewatering trucks to avert waterlogging

Apart from the security arrangements, the Delhi Fire Service (DSF) will deploy four heavy-duty Mobile Dewatering Trucks in order to avert any waterlogging or flooding situation during the global leaders’ meeting, said the Raj Niwas officials.

The equipment, specially borrowed from Ahmedabad, has been deployed at ITPO and Raj Ghat to avert any waterlogging or flooding-related eventuality if it rains in the national capital during the G20 Summit, they said.

According to the Raj Niwas, vehicles equipped with high-capacity suction pumps have been brought in by DFS to deal with any contingency like the one recently, where the area in and around the Raj Ghat and ITPO were submerged after heavy downpours in the national capital.

Delhi LG inspects arrangements personally

During the review meetings ahead of the Summit, Delhi Lt Governor V K Saxena had repeatedly stressed putting in place a comprehensive and foolproof contingency plan in and around the G20 venues to deal with waterlogging or flooding situations in the city, in case it rains heavily during the event.

Moreover, the LG said, “Agencies like the NDRF (National Disaster Response Force), PWD (Public Works Department) and Flood and Irrigation Department have been put on alert to handle any situation. Every detail has been minutely planned and arrangements made.”
