According to the latest announcement by Karnataka Large and Medium Industries Minister M B Patil, the tech giant Apple’s contract manufacturer Foxconn has plans to start manufacturing iPhone units at its proposed Devanahalli by April 2024 and the state government would hand over the required 300-acre land for the manufacturing to Taiwanese company by July this year.

The project worth Rs 13,600 crore is expected to create over 50,000 jobs after the manufacturing gets started in at Bengaluru plant in Karnataka.

Taking it to Twitter, Minister MB Patil wrote, “Senior Management representatives of #Foxconn visited me to discuss the establishment of an #iPhone assembly plant at Devanahalli. We addressed project-related challenges, emphasizing the development of vital industrial infrastructure and maximizing the creation of employment opportunities. Shri @PriyankKharge, Minister for IT and BT, was also present during the discussion.”

During the meeting, the delegation met the minister, where Information Technology minister Priyank Kharge was also present, on Thursday.

The minister said, “The designated 300 acres of land at Devanahalli’s ITIR (information technology investment region) will be transferred by July 1, 2023. The government would also guarantee the provision of 5 MLD of water, a reliable power supply, road connectivity, and other infrastructure services. According to the minister for big and medium industries, the project, worth Rs 13,600 crore, will now move more quickly towards its goal of creating 50,000 jobs.”

The Taiwan-based multinational corporation has already paid the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board 30 percent of the land’s cost, or Rs 90 crore. Its targets include producing 20 million units (2 crore units) annually and completing the project in three phases.

Notably, Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB) has already received 30 percent of the cost towards the cost of land which is Rs 90 crore from the Taiwan-based company.
