Jagdeep Singh, recognised as the tallest Sikh globally at an impressive 7 feet 6 inches, gained fame as part of the Bir Khalsa group, renowned for their daring acts and proficiency in 'gatka,' a traditional Sikh martial art. However, the former Punjab Police constable, who rose to prominence with his appearance on America's Got Talent in 2019, is now making headlines for a different reason. On Friday, Jagdeep Singh, along with two others, was apprehended by the state special operation cell of the Punjab Police with 500 grams of heroin.
The police discovered the heroin in Jagdeep Singh's SUV in Tarn Taran district. Despite his towering stature and previous recognition for his talents, Jagdeep, also known as Deep Singh, found himself on the wrong side of the law. This unexpected turn has shocked many who followed his journey from America's Got Talent to his involvement in a drug-related arrest.
As a pivotal member of the Bir Khalsa group, Jagdeep showcased daring acts and 'gatka' skills, captivating audiences not only on America's Got Talent but also on platforms like Australia's Got Talent. The group's memorable performance on the American show involved blindfolded Kanwaljit Singh, the founder of Bir Khalsa, smashing coconuts and watermelons placed around Jagdeep with a hammer.
Following the arrest, Jagdeep Singh was presented before a local court, which subsequently remanded him to police custody for five days. The police have affirmed their commitment to investigating the entire network involved in the drug smuggling operation. State special operation cell inspector Kanwar Iqbal Singh stated, "We are looking for the others involved. We have gotten a 5-day remand (of Jagdeep Singh)... We are also investigating the nexus."
This incident comes on the heels of another drug smuggling bust by the Punjab Police earlier in the week. Four individuals were arrested, and 3 kg of heroin, along with ₹9 lakh in cash, was seized from their possession. The individuals arrested were identified as Vikramjeet Singh alias Vicky, Rashpal Singh, Gourav alias Kali, and Sahil Kumar alias Manthan.
In addition to the arrests, the police impounded their Innova car, which they intended to use for transporting the heroin consignment. The recent events highlight the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement in curbing drug-related activities in the region.
