More than half of Punjab under water; people relying on langars for aid

Incessant rainfalls in the North-Western part of India have caused flood-like situations in Punjab, Haryana, Uttarakhand, and Himachal Pradesh. 14 out of 23 districts in Punjab are now suffering from floods.

The heavy floods have destroyed residences, transport, and crops. The State government has allocated ₹33.5 crore for the aid of flood-affected people, which people have criticised as insufficient given the vast magnitude of damage.

As a result, people have been relying on the local people to assist those stricken by the floods. People have been using tractors and rafts to rescue people from submerged neighbourhoods, and gurudwaras have sent food from langar to the victims.
