Keeping the situation in mind, Gujarat authorities have taken precautionary measures to manage the surging water levels in the state’s prominent dams due to incessant rains. According to the administration, the Sardar Sarovar Dam on the Narmada River and the Ukai Dam over the Tapi River have been witnessing significant water release, which is leading to serious concerns for floods in the low-lying areas.

National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), along with fire brigade and other rescue teams have been evacuating people from the affected area. As per officials, around 206 villagers have been evacuated and have been shifted to safer places, following the release of excess water from the Sardar Sarovar Dam in Gujarat’s Narmada district.

According to the officials, around 2000 people were shifted to relief camps as water from the Narmada River inundated low-lying areas of the district on Sunday afternoon in Bharuch district.

IMD issues warning

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued the warning for the incessant rains.

Schools shut in Rajasthan’s Jalore

In the wake of heavy rainfalls and flood-like situation in neighbouring Rajasthan‘s Jalore district, the District Education Officer has issued directed the closure of all schools and Anganwadis. The advisory read, “All Government and Private schools and Anganwadis in the district will remain closed today, on September 18, due to rainfall.”

In addition to this, IMD has also advised people to avoid going to areas with waterlogging and unpaved roads.
