As per official sources, a major fire broke out in the Mukherjee Nagar area in Delhi. The fire broke out in the afternoon hours in Gyana Building near Batra Cinema.
Reportedly, the Gyana building had housed a few coaching centres and it seems the classes were on when the fire broke out.
In the fire videos that soon got viral on social media, students can be seen getting down with the help of a rope ladder.
As many as 11 fire tenders are on the spot to put off the fire. However, so far there are no reports of any injuries or human loss.
This is not the first time when a building in Mukherjee Nagar has caught fire. A major fire broke out at Nirankari Colony on March 31, 2023 this year. The area turned into ashes till the flames were doused. A vehicle also got scalded in the fire. Back in 2016 too, the area reported a major fire.
Mukherjee Nagar, located in the North West Delhi, is known to house hundreds of coaching institutes and is called the education hub of Delhi. The streets here feature book stores, libraries, rental housing, hostels, eateries and small shops of household stuff that any student might need. Around 5 lakh students from all over India, stay here at one time and prepare for competitive exams, particularly civil services.
