Maharaja Samthar, a former Home Minister of Uttar Pradesh and a seven-time MLA passed away on March 9, 2023, at the age of 72. He was also an MLC from Jhansi’s Garotha assembly and the Maharaja of Samthar State princely state of Jhansi. 

Maharaja Samthar was counted among the strong leaders of the Uttar Pradesh Congress and always remained loyal to the party. He was also the maternal uncle of Raghuraj Pratap Singh alias Raja Bhaiya of Pratapgarh.

Illness and Personal Life

Maharaja Samthar had been ill for some time and was living at his residence in Lucknow (UP). Pradeep Jain Aditya, former Union Minister of State for Congress, confirmed the news of his death and added that Maharaja Samthar always remained in the Congress and was counted among the strong leaders of the Uttar Pradesh Congress. He also mentioned that Maharaja Samthar had a son named Samarjit and a daughter named Niharika. Niharika is married to Dushyant, son of former Rajasthan CM Vasundhara Raje. That’s why Maharaja Samthar was close to the former CM.

State Honors and Last Rites

Maharaja Samthar’s mortal remains will reach Samthar by tonight, and the last darshan will be held inside the Samthar fort on March 10, 2023, from 10 am. The last rites will be performed after 2 o’clock, and state honours will be given. The funeral will be held at Samthar, and there is talk of the arrival of former CM Vasundhara Raje and Raja Bhaiya during the last rites.
