Delhi court on Saturday has granted bail to ex-AAP councillor Tahir Hussain in 2020 Delhi riots case. Before this on July 12, he was given bail in the five separate cases related to the riots. However, Hussain will have to remain in jail in regard of the rest of the FIRs against him, including UAPA for plotting the conspiracy in riots.

This case pertains to a gunshot injury to one Ajay Goswami on February 25, 2023. A case was registered at police station Dayalpur.

The bail has been granted by the Addition Sessions Judge Pulastya Pramachala said in his order on September 2, “Bail granted to the applicant by a court higher in hierarchy to this court does create a material change in the circumstances in favour of the applicant.”

The judges also noted that most of the witnesses in the cases were same, and hight court has appreciated the merits in the earlier two cases before granting him the bail.

While grating the bail to Hussain, the judge noted that the material change in the circumstance in itself becomes a ground to grant bail to Hussain in the FIR in question. Apart from this, the court has also asked Hussain to furnish a personal bond in the sum of Rs 1,00,000 each. He has also been directed not to leave India without taking permission from the court and also, he will also not try to influence any other witness in connection with the case.
