Evacuation is on as Yamuna continues to rise, Read traffic advisory here

Delhi is one of the worst-hit cities of Monsoon fury since the water level of the Yamuna River crossed its danger mark. The national capital is on extreme flood alert with Yamuna’s level reached to 208.46 metres, leading to an evacuation of people from the low-lying area near the river. Over 16,500 people living in the areas have been shifted to safer places.

The city is also suffering from skin diseases, itchiness and drinking problems as three water treatment plants in Wazirabad, Chandrawal and Okhla have been shut down amid the flood-like situation prevailing in Delhi.

From Delhi’s Ring Road to CM Arvind Kejriwal‘s office, everything is deluged in water amid the aftermath of the rise of the water level of Yamuna. Currently, the water level is three metres above its danger mark.

Taking notes from the situation, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said, ” Some places in Delhi could witness a shortage of water because of this.” Also, he is expected to visit the Wazirabad Water Treatment Plant later in the day.

Delhi Traffic Police issues travel advisory

As Yamuna continues to rise, affecting traffic movements, the Delhi Traffic Police issued an advisory to avoid traffic congestion in the city.

The traffic police have urged residents to avoid the following three roads: Mahatma Gandhi Marg between IP Flyover and Chandgi Ram Akhara, Mahatma Gandhi Marg between Kalighat Mandir and Delhi Secretariat and Outer Ring Road between Wazirabad Bridge and Chandgi Ram Akhara.

Restrictions have also been put on the movement of commercial vehicles to regulate traffic jams. Non-destined commercial vehicles will not be allowed to enter Delhi. Other commercial vehicles will be diverted so that they won’t disrupt traffic on the affected parts of the Ring Road and Outer Ring Road.
