While hearing the cases on Manipur violence, the Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud on Monday said that the platform of the Apex Court should not be used to escalate the matter. The Supreme Court remarking the PILs on violence-hit Manipur said, “We can only monitor the steps being taken by the state and pass certain orders if there are additional measures that can be taken. But we can’t run the security apparatus.”

Notably, the status report on the Manipur violence is scheduled for the hearing.

The Solicitor General Tushar Mehta said that the matter may be taken up by the petitioner with the utmost sensitivity, as any misinformation can lead to a bad situation in the state. Replying to senior advocate Colin Gonsalves appearing for the petitioners, CJI Chandrachud asked to come up with a concrete solution on the matter.

Plea against restoration of the internet in the state

The Supreme Court on Monday while hearing the PILs said that it will also hear the plea against the High Court order allowing the restoration of internet in the state.

Replying to an appeal against the Manipur HC order allowing restoration of the internet in the state by Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, CJI DY Chandrachud said, “Keep the papers ready. We will take it up today.”
