The person responsible for the bomb threat received via email by the Delhi Public School Mathura Road in Southeast Delhi has been identified, according to the Delhi Police Special Cell. The suspect is said to be a student at the school who stated that he wrote the threat “merely for fun”.
The school administration received the threat through email on Tuesday, indicating that a bomb had been installed on the school property and was due to explode on Wednesday, April 26, at 9AM.
On April 26, at approximately 7:50AM, the principal notified the police of a bomb threat. The campus was quickly evacuated, with about 4,000 students there when the news was received. Three police teams, a bomb disposal squad, a dog squad, and other security officers were sent in to perform a comprehensive search. However, the email turned out to be a false alarm.
The police forwarded the investigation of the bomb threat at DPS Mathura Road to the Special Cell to find the person responsible for the incident and discover whether they were involved in any past cases. Investigators initially identified a server in Russia as being involved in the case. They later determined, however, that the person suspected was from Delhi.
The suspect allegedly utilised various software to prevent detection, and despite being discovered, the individual cannot be caught or brought to the police station because they are under the age of 16. Instead, the suspect will be counselled. The officer went on to say that the suspect claimed to have made the threat for entertainment after seeing news reports of a similar event on April 12 at The Indian School in Sadiq Nagar, which also turned out to be a fake. In November 2022, the school got a bomb hoax email, and the police still couldn’t find the person responsible for that.
Authorities from the South District and the Special Cell are said to have traced an IP address to Germany, leading them to believe that the offender utilised a specialised server in India or Europe. The motivation for the crime is unknown, and there have been no new developments in the investigation as of yet. The police have written to German agencies and social media sites seeking information about the suspect but have received no answer. According to an officer, the suspect is most likely the same person who is responsible for the DPS incident.
