The Delhi government's Mohalla bus scheme may be launched soon. It is a plan that consists of 9-meter-long buses to promote neighborhood connectedness in regions without public bus service.

This announcement was made on Thursday by the Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot. During the ongoing budget session of the Delhi assembly, Gahlot shared this information.

Mohalla bus service plans

In response to a query regarding the lack of public transportation in Rajokri Village, south Delhi, Gahlot stated that although the government has already ordered the buses, but delivery has been delayed. He conveyed “I had estimated that the buses would be delivered two to three months ago. The transport department is holding regular meetings with manufacturers to expedite the delivery of buses. I hope that by the end of this month or the beginning of the next month, the buses will be delivered.”

Plans from last year:

Road congestion - prominent issue

Aam Aadmi Party Mehrauli MLA Naresh Yadav said that the 12-metre-long public buses served the Rajokri village over nine years ago but stopped due to the congested lanes.

The 12-meter public buses that used to service the Rajokri village were discontinued more than nine years ago. According to Aam Aadmi Party Mehrauli MLA Naresh Yadav, lane congestion was the cause behind them being discontinued.

According to Gahlot, there is not enough room for the 12-meter buses to maneuver throughout Rajokri village. He informed that “The issue is not limited to Rajokri village. In several other places, the big buses are unable to maneuver due to encroaching and congestion. The government plans to serve these areas under the Mohalla bus scheme.”
