Heavy rainfalls, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, lashed the Delhi-NCR region, bringing a much-needed respite from the scorching heat to the residents. Heavy rainfall was seen in the National Capital Regions such as Gurugram, Faridabad, Ghaziabad, and Noida.

The southwest monsoon has finally arrived in the Delhi-NCR region, and the Indian Meteorological Department has issued a ‘yellow alert’ for the next two days. Yellow alert signifies ‘light to very light rain at isolated places’.

Drop in temperature provides summer relief

The much-awaited rainfall will bring a drop in the average temperature in the NCR region. The weather department said that the maximum temperature will drop to around 32 degrees Celsius over Monday and Tuesday, with the minimum temperature around 25 degrees Celsius.

The early arrival of the southwest monsoon rains will provide relief as Delhi-NCR has been in the grips of extreme heat. Last year, the southwest monsoon arrived in the Delhi-NCR area on June 30.

Rainfall brings change in pollution levels

The incoming monsoon winds have also improved the air quality in the NCR area, with the average air quality index (AQI) below 100, which falls in the ‘good’ category.
