The Delhi Metro has recently issued an update that three of the six lines envisioned for Phase-IV will be built first as priority corridors. Some routes are still under consideration.

The priority corridors are Tughlakabad – Delhi Aerocity spanning 23.62 km (connecting Violet Line and Airport Line and referred to as Golden Line), Majlis Park – Maujpur spanning 12.32 km (an extension of Magenta Line), and Janakpuri West – RK Ashram spanning 29.26 km (an extension of Pink Line).

CM Kejriwal signs MoU

In regards to the three priority corridors being constructed under Phase-IV of the Delhi metro, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has consented to sign the long-awaited Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This is an understanding made between the Delhi government, the Center, and the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).

The MoU will be signed within the next week, according to official sources. A 65.2 km section of the Delhi metro will be built by the DMRC as part of Phase-IV. This will comprise 46 stations spread across three key corridors.

Phase-IV Routes

For Delhi Metro's Phase-IV, a total of six lines were suggested in two categories: "under construction" and "under consideration." The six routes would total 128.81 kilometers in length. Of these, the first three priority corridors to be built will be 65.20 kilometers long and have 46 stops.

The priority corridors are Tughlakabad – Delhi Aerocity spanning 23.62 km, which is being built as Golden Line to connect Violet Line and Airport Line, Majlis Park – Maujpur spanning 12.32 km (an extension of Magenta Line), and Janakpuri West – RK Ashram spanning 29.26 km (an extension of Pink Line).

Routes awaiting approval

The three "under-consideration" lanes were designed to have 33 stations spread across 42.26 kilometers. These are the 21.73 km long Rithala, Bawana, and Narela metro corridor, the 12.57 km long Inderlok–Indraprastha corridor, and the 7.96 km long Lajpat Nagar–Saket G Block corridor. The Center has to approve these three suggested pathways.

The DMRC announced in July of last year that, in order to improve connectivity, the planned Rithala-Bawana-Narela line would possibly be extended to Kundli in Haryana. It also stated that two more routes, Kirti Nagar – Bamnoli village and Aerocity – IGDT-1, are also being considered.

Train features

The new generation train, which will be installed on the Delhi Metro's Phase-4 routes, will operate at 85 kmph while having a 95 kmph design speed. Additionally, a Grade of Automation (GoA) 4 driverless capability will be included. The tricolors of India's national flag will be incorporated into the design of the train sets. The inner door pillar of the trains will be decorated in a combination of green, white, and saffron. The Golden Line train will be painted in metallic gold color.

Manufacturing new generation trains

The Phase IV corridor of the Delhi Metro will see the DMRC deploying the newest train sets available. Metro commuters in Delhi will have a pleasant and comfortable ride thanks to the new-age trains. Alstom was given the contract by the DMRC in November 2022 to deliver 52 train sets, each consisting of six coaches.

At its plant in Sri City, Andhra Pradesh, the business began producing the next generation of metro train sets on Friday. It is projected that the required 52 train sets will cost approximately 312 million euros to manufacture. This covers the cost of maintenance for the next 15 years in regards to the new line's 13 train sets.
