Delhi government's budget for this year is probably going to be devoted to solving the city's water problems because the Assembly elections are set for 2025. According to the sources, the government will be focusing on the Yamuna's cleaning, water generation, sewage treatment, sewer network connection, water overflow metre, water pollution, and 24-hour water delivery in the city.

Arvind Kejriwal, the chief minister of Delhi, declared during the 2020 Assembly elections that the Yamuna River would be cleansed by 2025. Since assuming leadership, L-G VK Saxena has made multiple trips to the Yamuna River, and he has directed DJB to move projects pertaining to its cleanup forward.

Meanwhile, sources claim that a number of projects are stalled as a result of the ongoing dispute between the elected administration and the officers over funding for DJB. Additionally, a special audit of the DJB, its use of funds, and its expenses during the previous five years was mandated by the Finance Department.

The total budget allocation for the water sector is expected to be significant, with a focus on increasing water availability and improving sewage treatment facilities. It is said that it could be more than Rs 80,000 crore, this year. This could involve projects like upgrading water treatment plants, reducing water leakage, and expanding the piped water network.

The sources also claim that the budget might also include plans for improving rainwater harvesting, developing desalination plants to address water scarcity, and tackling the problem of landfill waste, which often ends up polluting water bodies.

However, the details of the budget haven't been officially announced yet, so it's important to wait for the official announcement to get a clearer picture.
