Delhi AQI remains in ‘very poor’ category, no relief predicted so far

Delhi is still shrouded with dark clouds of haze and toxic air as the AQI (air quality index) continues to stick in the ‘very poor’ category today (November 21) as well. The AQI stood at 323 at 5:17 am on Tuesday as per System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR).

Delhi’s AQI remains in ‘very poor’ category

According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Delhiites woke up in a thick smog covering the city with worsening air quality. AQI in Anand Vihar was recorded at 374, in Jahangirpuri at 399, in Lodhi Road at 315, and in New Moti Bagh at 370.

It seems that the air quality in the national capital and its suburbs again started deteriorating overnight after experiencing a marginal improvement a day ago. As per the prediction, a major relief is unlikely in the coming days.

Delhi’s average AQI, recorded at 4 pm, stood at 348 on Monday, deteriorating from 301 on Sunday. It was 319 on Saturday, 405 on Friday and 419 on Thursday.

NCR region also records a dip in air quality

It's not only Delhi that is affected by the worsening pollution crisis, even its neighbouring NCR regions are trapped in the hazy-smoggy fog across them. The CPCB stated that Ghaziabad (321), Gurugram (261), Greater Noida (318), Noida (331) and Faridabad (329) also recorded a dip in air quality.

Notably, an AQI between zero and 50 is considered 'good', 51 and 100 'satisfactory', 101 and 200 'moderate', 201 and 300 'poor', 301 and 400 'very poor', 401 and 450 'severe' and above 450 'severe plus.’
