Delhi AQI reaches 460 today: Here are top updates on Delhi-NCR pollution level

Delhi is witnessing deteriorating air quality conditions straight on the sixth day on Friday, With haze in the visibility the air quality index (AQI) was recorded at 460 at 7 am on November 03. Any AQI above 400 is said to be in a severe category and has also triggered response actions from the Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi government.

Amid being in the severe category, the Delhi government has declared that all government and private primary schools closed for two days – Friday and Saturday. The authorities have also called for an emergency meeting today at noon to discuss the steps to be taken to tackle this prevailing pollution situation in the city.

Notably, an AQI between 0 and 50 is considered 'good', 51 and 100 'satisfactory', 101 and 200 'moderate', 201 and 300 'poor', 301 and 400 'very poor', and 401 and 500 'severe.'

  • According to the latest pollution level, Delhi’s AQI plunged to 460 on Friday, the worst so far this year. It was at 422 at 10 pm on Thursday and was gradually worsening over the past several days. The 24-hour average AQI was 364 on Wednesday, 359 on Tuesday, 347 on Monday, 325 on Sunday, 304 on Saturday, and 261 on Friday.

  • Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal took to his social media to announce the closure of all government and private primary schools in the city for the next two days in view of the rising pollution level in the national capital. "In light of the rising pollution levels, all govt and private primary schools in Delhi will remain closed for the next 2 days,” his post on X read.

  • As pollution level has been in the severe category for consecutive 6th days, Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai has called for a meeting on Friday to discuss the measures to be taken in view of the worsening situation. This high-level meeting will discuss the implementation of stage III of the Graded Response Action Plan.

  • "A meeting of all concerned departments has been called on Friday at 12 pm to discuss the effective implementation of stage III of GRAP," Rai told ANI.

  • Even, the centre’s pollution control panel has ordered an immediate ban on non-essential construction work, stone crushing and mining in the region in view of the worsening situation.

  • Further, the worsening air quality has also prompted several restrictions on the plying of BS-II petrol and BS-IV diesel four-wheelers in parts of Delhi-NCR including Gurugram, Faridabad, Ghaziabad and Gautam Budh Nagar.
