Atishi, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) politician and minister of education for Delhi, posted a clip of the alleged abuse of Manish Sisodia by a police officer on Tuesday. Manish Sisodia was seen in the video in Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court with police officers. The video was published via the AAP leader’s Twitter account. Atishi posted on Twitter, “Shocking, inappropriate behaviour by these policemen with Manish ji in Rouse Avenue Court.”

The video shows journalists asking Manish Sisodia about the Centre’s ordinance, to which he responds by attacking Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Modi, according to Sisodia, is an arrogant individual who no longer cares about democracy. Sisodia implied that PM Modi had imposed a dictatorship on the nation. The police hurriedly led Sisodia inside after hearing his words. This happened as he was being escorted to court for a hearing.

Kejriwal responds to the incident

Arvind Kejriwal, the chief minister of Delhi, harshly criticised the Delhi police on Tuesday for “misbehaving” with former deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia at the Rouse Avenue Court. Retweeting a video released by AAP minister Atishi, Kejriwal questioned how the police had the authority to handle Sisodia as depicted in the video. The CM asserted that someone higher up had instructed the cops to do this, and this is highly condemnable.

The Delhi Police respond to the controversy

The Delhi Police has responded to these accusations with a formal statement posted on Twitter. “The claims of police misconduct made at the time of production at Rouse Avenue Court with Manish Sisodia are propaganda. Security-wise, the police response that was highlighted in the video was essential. Making statements to the media while an accused person is being held in custody is against the law, the Delhi Police clarified in a statement.

Custody extended

Manish Sisodia’s judicial custody has been extended by the court till June 1 in the meantime. Sisodia appeared in court after his prior judicial custody expired.
