An 8-year-old boy was killed in a hit-and-run accident on the Delhi-Meerut Expressway Friday morning, local police reported.

The victim, identified as Samadh, was a resident of Sikroda village located near the expressway. According to authorities, he had gone to play near the busy highway when he was fatally struck by a speeding car.

The car did not stop after hitting the child and fled the scene, police said.

In an attempt to avoid colliding with the boy, three other cars driving in the same lane crashed into each other, said Naresh Kumar, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) for the Masuri area. No injuries were reported from those vehicles.

Traffic was disrupted along the expressway for some time after the incident.

The tragic death of the young village boy is still under investigation. Police said they are working to identify and apprehend the driver responsible for the deadly hit-and-run.
