This incident came to light on August 23, when the mother of the victim noticed that her daughter’s bag was soaked with urine. Upon enquiry, the child revealed that she had been molested by a senior student on the school bus.

The parents immediately reported this incident to the school authorities. However, they alleged that the school chairman asked them to withdraw the complaint. The parents claimed that the school authorities even disclosed the identity of the child in front of their society members.

Speaking about the incident, a senior police official said, “A case under sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 228A (disclosure of the identity of the victim of certain offences) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and 10/21 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act has been registered at Begumpur police station.”

DWC chief Swati Maliwal takes cognisance of this matter

Earlier today, Delhi Commissioner for Women (DWC) chief Swati Maliwal took cognisance of this depressing matter and issued a notice to the police, seeking information about the action taken linked to this case.

Expressing her concern over the incident on X (formerly known as Twitter), Swati Maliwal has demanded a copy of the FIR and details of any arrests made in this case.

In the notice, the DWC chief also asked whether any FIR was filed against the chairman, school manager, principal, vice principal and other school authorities under the POSCO Act, for allegedly not reporting the matter and revealing the identity of the child.

The DCW has sought an action taken report from the Delhi Police by September 5.
