A self-proclaimed ‘godman’ was arrested on charges of sexual assault on Wednesday, according to the Delhi Police. The accused had two cases registered against him by the complainants.

The accused has been identified as 33-year-old Vinod Kashyap who ran a place called the Mata Masani Chowk Darbar in the Kakrola area of the national capital. He also has a YouTube channel in his name with a large number of subscribers.

According to a police officer, Vinod used to call female devotees to his place on the pretext of helping them with their problems. “The accused insisted that the devotees practise ‘guru seva’ to get rid of their problems. He then assaulted the women sexually and warned them against disclosing or reporting the incident to anyone,” the officer added.

The accused has been arrested and two cases have been registered against him under sections 376 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the official further said.

The police confirmed that further investigations are underway.
