As violence spreads to affluent Gurugram areas, which is just 20 kms from Delhi, after the communal clashes in Haryana’s Nuh, Delhi is also on alert. Notably, several shops were set on fire after the clashes erupted on Monday.

After being alerted, the senior authorities have banned the sale of loose petrol and diesel in the area. Several shops near sector-70 of Gurugram has been set on fire on Tuesday night. Incidents of arson and conflict have been reported from some areas but no major accident happened, according to Gurugram police.

Taking it to Twitter, Gurugram police mentioned, “We request the public to please not worry. There have been some incidents of arson and skirmishes today. But there has been no major incident. We have strengthened security in sensitive areas and are on alert to maintain peace.”

Police also warned the people not to believe in rumours, “Please do not listen to rumours. Please do not give credence to reports on social media. We request you to immediately call 112 in case u need any help at all and we assure you – Gurugram Police shall be there for you,” police tweeted.

As a precautionary measure, schools and colleges have been shut in the nearby areas where the ethnic clashes broke out on Monday.

Statement from Haryana Dy CM

“The yatra organisers did not give complete information about the yatra to the district administration. The incident took place due to this…Strict action will be taken against those found responsible for the incident,” said Haryana Dy CM Dushyant Chautala yesterday on incidents of violence in the state.

Delhi on alert after Nuh clashes

Delhi has also raised the alarm, with police stepping up patrols and utilising drones to keep an eye on critical sites. According to a Delhi Police officer, the force is ready to handle any crisis that can develop in the capital as a result of similar happenings in nearby districts.

Apart from this, security has been beefed up at Delhi’s Nirman Vihar Metro Station as VHP and Bajrang Dal have planned to stage protest after Nuh clashes.
