Saturday morning saw residents of Delhi-NCR waking up to heavy rain, gusty winds, and thunderstorms. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has further forecasted that this pleasant weather will persist for the next three to four days.

According to the IMD, there will be no heatwave conditions until May 30th. Following the rainfall, waterlogging was observed in various areas of Delhi. This sudden weather change is anticipated to provide relief from the hot weather that had been prevailing in North India.

Traffic congestion occurred in multiple areas of the city due to uprooted trees and waterlogging. This included the Vasant Vihar-Delhi airport road stretch, the Kanshiram Takkar Marg, and the Mahipalpur highway underpass.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted thunderstorms and additional rainfall throughout the day. The maximum temperature is expected to reach around 32 degrees Celsius.

According to the IMD, Delhi registered a minimum temperature of 19.3 degrees Celsius today, which is 7 degrees lower than the normal average. The national capital received a rainfall of 16 mm until 8:30 am, as reported by the IMD.

The IMD, around 6:30 am, stated that due to its influence, there would be a continuation of thunderstorms/dust storms accompanied by light to moderate rainfall and gusty winds with speeds ranging from 40 to 70 kmph in Delhi-NCR and nearby regions for the next two hours.

As per the report by news agency ANI, flight operations have been affected due to adverse weather conditions, as stated by the Delhi airport. Passengers have been advised to contact their respective airlines for the latest information regarding their flights. According to sources at the Delhi airport, four flights destined for Delhi have been redirected to Jaipur due to the weather conditions in the national capital. In total, six flights were diverted due to the heavy rainfall.

An official from the airport informed ANI that a total of four flights were redirected to Jaipur this morning due to adverse weather conditions. These flights were originally scheduled to arrive in Delhi from various cities.

According to the weather agency, a cluster of clouds is currently in motion from Haryana and the neighboring northern regions of Rajasthan towards West Uttar Pradesh, passing through Delhi. It is estimated that these clouds will take approximately two more hours to traverse Delhi-NCR.

The weather agency stated that light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms with wind speeds ranging from 30 to 60 kmph, is expected to persist across several areas of Delhi-NCR and Haryana for the next two hours. Additionally, these weather conditions are predicted to prevail over northeast Rajasthan for the next 2-3 hours and over West Uttar Pradesh for the next 3-4 hours.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted intermittent rainfall over northwest India, including the national capital and its neighboring regions, for the next two to three days. This weather pattern is attributed to the influence of a western disturbance that is currently active over the western Himalayan region.

According to the latest seven-day weather bulletin from the regional weather office, the upcoming days are expected to have a predominantly cloudy sky. There will be instances of light rain along with thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds in multiple locations. The maximum temperature is projected to be around 37 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature is likely to settle around 22 degrees Celsius.

On Monday and Tuesday, parts of Delhi experienced scorching heatwave conditions, as indicated by numerous weather stations recording maximum temperatures surpassing 45 degrees Celsius. The intense heatwave resulted in a surge in peak power demand, reaching 6,916 MW on Tuesday, the highest recorded so far this season, according to officials.

In an early morning tweet, the IMD mentioned that a cluster of cloud patches is currently moving across the Delhi-NCR region. As a result of this, the weather conditions are expected to persist with thunderstorms, dust storms, light to moderate rainfall, and gusty winds ranging from 40 to 70 km/h for the next two hours in Delhi-NCR and its neighbouring areas.

According to the weather office’s forecast, there would be light to moderate rainfall accompanied by gusty winds in the adjoining areas of Delhi (NCR). These areas include Loni Dehat, Hindon AF Station, Bahadurgarh, Ghaziabad, Indirapuram, Chhapraula, Noida, Greater Noida, Gurugram, Faridabad, Manesar, and Ballabhgarh. These weather conditions are expected to persist over the next two hours.

After providing the rainfall update, the weather office also shared an advisory on Twitter. The advisory recommended that individuals in and around the city adhere to traffic advisories, stay indoors, and keep windows and doors closed. Additionally, it advised people to avoid travel if possible.

Several commuters expressed their frustration about traffic congestion on Twitter.

On social media, one individual posted about a significant traffic jam forming on the flyover from Vasant Vihar to the airport. Another user reported heavy traffic on the flyover leading to Rohini from Mangolpuri.
