The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has stated that Delhi and surrounding regions might witness light rainfall today. However, the weather service has also predicted drier weather for Tuesday, which will stretch till the end of the month.

The IMD mentioned that August is likely to end with lesser rainfall than normal—91.8mm as opposed to the average of 233.1mm.

The national capital is anticipated to witness high temperatures over the next few days and reach around 39 degrees Celsius by the first of September.

On Sunday, Delhi experienced a maximum temperature of 36.2 degrees Celsius, which is higher than average. Due to strong surfacing winds from Rajasthan, the high temperature is expected to be approximately 36 degrees on Monday before climbing to 37 degrees on Tuesday, 38 degrees on Wednesday, and 39 degrees on Friday.

The IMD officially stated, “The monsoon trough is still north of its normal position and hovering around the foothills. It is expected to stay there for the next five days, meaning no rain is expected in Delhi-NCR, barring an isolated spell today”.

Temperature lately

On Monday morning, Delhi’s minimum temperature was measured at 26.4 degrees Celsius, which is the average temperature that was reported for this time of year. On Sunday, the minimum temperature was recorded at 26.9 degrees.

August experiences a new high

Since there hasn’t been much rain in the latter half of the month, the temperature has mostly been above average. Delhi’s highest temperature was reported on August 21 at 38.1 degrees Celsius, compared to 38.2 degrees Celsius on August 30, 2019, making it the city’s hottest day in four years in the month of August.

Delhi’s air quality index

As per IMD prediction, the nation capital’s air quality index (AQI) is to remain in the moderate range due to dry winds and a lack of precipitation. Around nine this morning, the average AQI was 151, which is moderate. In contrast to that, at about 4 PM on Sunday, the air quality was moderately at 186. It was also predicted that Delhi’s AQI would stay moderate until August 30.
