It’s Monsoon in India, so if you want to swim get a boat as the national capital is full of water everywhere. Today (July 09), a fresh spell of rain has drenched the entire city and its NCR. As per the Met office, Delhi is expected to experience heavy downpours during the day.

On Saturday, the national capital received the highest rainfall in a day in 20 years, causing major waterlogging, uprooting trees, damaging vehicles, and leading to traffic jams, according to the IMD (India Meteorological Department).

A senior IMD officer said that the Safdarjung Observatory, the city’s primary weather station, recorded 126.1 mm of rainfall between 8.30 am and 5.30 pm, the highest since the 24-hour rainfall of 133.4 mm on July 10, 2003. Earlier, Delhi logged an all-time high of 266.2 mm on July 21, 158.

Since the city and its NCR are witnessing an unstopping drenching of rain, the IMD has issued a ‘Yellow Alert’ in place for Sunday.

Notably, the IMD uses four colour codes for weather warnings – green (no action needed), yellow (watch and stay updated), orange (be prepared), and red (take action).
