The Delhi high court on Friday has inducted two new judges taking the total strength from 42 to 44. The sanctioned strength of the high court judges is 60.

Shailender Kaur and Ravinder Dudeja, two judicial officials, were sworn in as supplementary high court judges by Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma.

The swearing-in event was on the same day that the Supreme Court was scheduled to hear a contempt complaint alleging excessive tardiness by the Centre in acting on the collegium's recommendations.

According to the sources, Bengaluru's Advocate Association filed a complaint for contempt in this case regarding the Union government's handling of the collegium's recommendations.

A collegium led by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud had recommended their names as Delhi High Court judges on October 10.

Although justice Kaur had retired from Delhi Higher Judicial Service on 30 September 2023, but her name was recommended by the collegium by taking her proven track record, her merit and integrity into consideration.

It is to be noted here that the names of the judges who have been inducted now, were cleared by the Centre on October 18. Wherein, the government had also transferred 16 high court judges and 15 new judges (apart from them) in various high courts.
