After Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal cleared the Excise Department’s proposal on Wednesday, the department announced four dates when the sale of liquor will be prohibited.

According to the officials, the state government announces a dry day every three months. As per notification, there will be a ban on liquor on account of Muharram (July 29), Independence Day, (August 15), Janmashtami (September 7), and Eid-e-Milad (September 28).

According to the Delhi Excise Rules, liquor cannot be sold by the vendors of alcoholic beverages on any dry day but this prohibition or ban does not apply to the sale of alcohol at duty-free shops or hotels, restaurants, bars serving liquor at special events permitted by the department.

Currently, there are three national holidays when liquor cannot be sold or served in the country, that is Republic Day, Independence Day, and Mahatma Gandhi’s birthday.
