The Rouse Avenue Court of Delhi on Tuesday has acquitted the former Haryana minister Gopal Kanda in connection with the death of air hostess Geetika Sharma by suicide. Geeta was found dead at her Ashok Vihar residence in Delhi’s North-West on August 5, 2012.

According to the information, the former Haryana minister Kanda got arrested in 2012 on the charges of rape and abetment to suicide after the Delhi court put him on trial in the case.

It is to be noted here that Geetika used to work in Kanda’s aviation company, Murli Dhar Lakh Ram (MDLR) Airlines, and has accused him of harassment in her suicide note found in her residence.

Aruna Chadha, who was co-accused in the case, has also been acquitted by special Judge Vikas Dhull, quoting that the prosecution failed to prove the charges beyond all reasonable doubt.

The accused were facing charges under various sections, including 306 (abetment of suicide), 506 (criminal intimidation), 201 (destruction of evidence), 120B (criminal conspiracy), and 466 (forgery). The trial court had also framed charges of rape (376) and 377 (unnatural sex) against Kanda. The Delhi High Court, however, later quashed the charges under 376 and 377 of the IPC.

More details awaited.
