A construction worker from Bihar’s Kathihar has died after falling from the fifth floor of the under-construction building in Malviya Nagar, Delhi. According to the police officials, the deceased, Sheikh Shah Alam was working when the incident happened.

According to the statement by the other workers working at the site, Alam was the only bread earner in his family and was planning to return home in August for his daughter’s wedding.

DCP (South) Chandan Chowdhary said, “Safety gears were neither found on the deceased’s body nor at the site.” She said a case under IPC Sections 288 (negligent conduct concerning pulling down or repairing buildings) and 304A (causing death by negligence) has been filed, and the builder, Harish, a resident of Khirki Extension, has been arrested. She further added that the builder has taken all the necessary permissions from the MCD for the construction.

Meanwhile, AAP MLA Somnath Bharti who visited the site, has also expressed his grief on the incident. Talking to media persons, Bharti said, “This is a very sad incident. A labour who came from Bihar to Delhi to earn a living for his family has died…He was plastering the wall on the fifth floor of the building. The builder did not fulfill his responsibility of providing safety gear to the labourer…This exposes the loopholes. Police and MCD say that it was a sanctioned plan…”

Bharti also assured of all the financial help from the state government for the victim’s family. Probe orders in the case have been given.
