New Delhi: In a daring act caught on CCTV, a group of unidentified individuals targeted a Reliance jewellery store in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, making away with crores worth of jewellery. The audacious heist unfolded on Thursday morning around 10:30 am at the showroom located on Rajpur Road. The timing, strategically chosen during the President of India's visit, when the state's police resources were dedicated to security measures, has left the city in shock.

Security breach amid presidential visit

Exploiting the heightened security arrangements for President Droupadi Murmu's three-day visit to Uttarakhand (November 7-9, 2023), five assailants, two of them armed, seized the opportunity to carry out a gunpoint robbery. The incident has raised eyebrows as it occurred amidst tight police surveillance in preparation for the Uttarakhand State Foundation Day program, which the President is set to preside over in Dehradun on November 9.

Brazen robbery caught on CCTV

The CCTV footage captures the chilling moments as one of the robbers calmly loots the jewellery store, assisted by accomplices in packing the stolen valuables. The audacity of the crime, executed while law enforcement was preoccupied with the President's security, underscores the criminals' strategic planning.

President Droupadi Murmu's visit to Uttarakhand was marked by an official welcoming ceremony at Raj Bhavan, where Chief Minister Dhami extended greetings and felicitated the esteemed guest.
