The Dwarkadhish Temple in Devbhumi Dwarka will remain closed on Thursday as cyclone “Biparjoy” is just 200 kms away from the Gujarat coast.

As per IMD sources, both Dwarka Bazaar and the Dwarkadhish Temple will stay closed. The temple schedule will stay the same, though. According to Malay Pandya, a priest at the Dwarkadhish Temple, there will be morning pooja, bhog, and aarti during the day, and live darshan is available on the temple’s official website and will last all day.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), on the evening of June 15, “Biparjoy” is predicted to make landfall close to the Jakhau coast in Gujarat before travelling the entire length of the Rann of Kutch up to Rajasthan. Reportedly, VSCS (very severe cyclonic storm) Biparjoy is expected to cross Saurashtra and Kutch as well as the nearby Pakistani shores by this evening, close to Jakhau Port between Mandvi and Karachi.

As per a tweet by IMD, “VSCS Biparjoy over Northeast Arabian Sea at 0530 hours IST of 15th June 2023 about 180km west-southwest of Jakhau Port (Gujarat). To cross Saurashtra & Kutch and adjoining Pakistan coasts between Mandvi and Karachi near Jakhau Port by the evening of 15th June as a VSVS.”

BSF affirms confidence to combat the situation

The Border Security Force (BSF) has made sufficient preparations in response to Cyclone’s “Biparjoy” approach to Gujarat’s coastal regions to handle any issues brought on by the storm.

Ravi Gandhi, the Inspector General of BSF Gujarat, toured the coastal areas of Bhuj and assessed the level of readiness for any eventuality.

BSF IG Ravi Gandhi told ANI, “BSF soldiers were stationed near the international boundary. According to the IMD estimate, the area in question extends from Mandvi to Karachi. Our personnel are fully prepared and on high alert. When someone comes to us with a concern, we assist them. We also communicate with other security agencies like the NDRF.”

In a press release, the BSF said that about 50 residents of the nearby town of Gunao village, close to the Jakhau coast, have been shifted to the outpost of BSF.
