The police in Aligarh are on high alert as cyber crime cases continue to surge in the city. A recent fraud case has come to light: an individual posing as a credit card officer cheated a victim out of Rs 1,23,862 by obtaining confidential information such as credit card numbers and OTP.

The victim immediately reported the incident to the cyber cell, leading to a police investigation. The authorities managed to stop the transferred money and returned half the amount to the victim. Unfortunately, cases like this are becoming increasingly common, with criminals taking advantage of people’s lack of awareness and trust in financial institutions.

The Fraudulent Call and Its Aftermath

The scammer targeted Pankaj Sharma’s son Amarchand Sharma, who posed as an SBI credit card officer and offered to increase the victim’s credit limit. The victim provided all the information requested, including an OTP, leading to the criminal gaining access to the victim’s account and taking the funds.

After the incident, the victim contacted the police and recovered part of the stolen money. The police have also taken steps to prevent similar cases by educating the public on avoiding cyber crime and WhatsApp fraud.

Preventing Cyber Crime and WhatsApp Fraud

The SSP Kalanidhi Naithani has urged people to be cautious of potential scams and to report any suspicious activity immediately. The police have released their contact details to the public to ensure that victims can receive immediate assistance.

Naithani emphasised the importance of awareness campaigns and called on citizens to protect themselves from cybercrime. He also warned against responding to unsolicited messages. He shared his thoughts on how easily people give their personal or financial information to unknown parties.

As cybercrime cases continue to increase in Aligarh, people must remain vigilant and take proactive steps to protect themselves. By following basic guidelines and reporting suspicious activity, individuals can avoid falling prey to scams and keep their personal and financial information secure.
