Amid the bad weather conditions, people in Delhi and NCR are complaining about Conjunctivitis. Multiple cases per day are getting reported from Delhi and nearby areas. According to the information, Delhi AIIMS has been receiving a minimum of 100 cases per day.

Taking to media sources, Dr JS Titiyal, chief of RP Centre for Ophthalmic Sciences at AIIMS, the national capital is reporting 100 such cases per day.

“We are getting at least 100 cases of conjunctivitis per day. There is usually a seasonal increase in conjunctivitis cases, which coincides with the flu season. The conjunctivitis cases are mostly caused by a virus,” Dr Titiyal said.

The reports also claim that private eye hospitals in Delhi have reported 1,032 cases of conjunctivitis taking count to 1,521 pan India. Common symptoms are itching, redness, watering, and sometimes discharge is experienced with Conjunctivitis.

Precautions and hygiene measures suggested by experts

  • General hygiene methods should be followed by regular handwashing after coming from outside.
  • Avoid close contact with anyone in your family who has eye flu.
  • Use dark goggles, avoid swimming, and avoid close contact with others. Do not touch your eyes.
  • Children should avoid going to school for a few days to avoid spreading to other students.
  • Avoid crowded places and avoid touching common objects like railings or handles. Use only antibiotic eye drops.

It is essential to maintain strict hygiene practices. Refrain from sharing personal items like towels or eye makeup can contribute to preventing the infection’s transmission.
